Inconel is from the family of austenitic nickel-chromium-based superalloys. Inconel alloys are usually oxidation and corrosion resistant materials which are well suited for service even in very extreme environments and when subjected to high pressure and heat. When heated, Inconel forms a very thick, stable and passivating oxide layer protecting the surface from any further attack. Inconel retains its strength over a wide temperature range and these superalloys are attractive for very high temperature applications where the aluminum and steel would fail to resist the pressure to creep as a result of thermally induced crystal vacancies. Inconel’s high temperature strength is developed by the solid solution strengthening or precipitation hardening mainly depending on the alloy.
Inconel pipes are usually available in special alloys such as Inconel 600, Inconel 601, Inconel 617, Inconel 625, Inconel 718, Inconel X-750, Incoloy 800, Incoloy 800H, Incoloy 800HT and Incoloy 825. These premium quality inconel pipes are used widely in critical applications in industries such as oil and gas, aviation, aerospace, petrochemical, natural gas, etc. The inconel pipes are available in various dimensional specifications such as cross section and outer diameter hence it is used for different purposes and in different industries.
Types of Inconel pipes and its uses
- Inconel seamless pipes
The high quality Inconel seamless pipes are highly resistance to heat and corrosion. These pipes are usually hardened by cold work for additional strength. Good quality Inconel seamless pipes can be used in the heat-treating industry for muffles, furnace components and for heat-treating baskets and trays.
- Inconel welded pipes
Inconel welded pipes is used in number of applications, where high demands are set on its reliability, strength and corrosion resistance. These pipes are welded with the over alloyed filler metals and here nitrogen is added to the shielding gas for a high pitting corrosion resistance possible in the weld. These Inconel pipes are found in different dimensions for different purposes.
- Inconel Fabricated Pipes
Inconel Fabricated pipes have a high tensile and creep-rupture properties even at a very high temperature. There are various ranges of Inconel fabricated pipe which permits annealing and welding without spontaneous hardening.
- Inconel ERW Pipes
Inconel ERW (Electric Resistance Welded) Pipes are widely used in different engineering applications which includes scaffolding, fencing, pipe lines etc. These pipes have a high corrosion resistance, strength, toughness and deformability. The manufacturing of ERW Inconel pipes can be done with different wall thicknesses, diameters and finishes and can be used for various purposes respectively.
